awwww aren't ya sweet? ;P well i'm alive...so it must be alright lol
what have i been up to? not a darn lot! but yesterday i was suddenly inspired to finally get back to writing....after 8 months of writers block...this is what came out:
He stood outside the shop for a good while, unaware just how long, because at the moment, in his head, time was distorted and a minute just as easily felt like an hour. Staring at the door, and noticing how humble this little café seemed, he finally willed himself to go in, blinking, he started moving onward and inward. The little bell tingled as the door fell to a close behind him. Inside was barely lit with a small lamp at the back and a few tiny wall lamps in the middle, in this light it was difficult for his eyes to adjust from the bright street lights outside. Once his vision had settled, he took a deep breath and panned the room, searching out his object of affection. Or was it too early to be calling him that yet? His mind wandered off on various tangents all at once and he began to feel dizzy. Grabbing the nearest chair he just fell onto it to steady himself; he saw that, apart from the little old man sat down behind the counter looking at him over his Flash News - Important Infopaper, there was no one else but himself. Rafe just wiped his face, now covered with a fine sheen of sweat, with both hands and found his seat in the middle of the room, his back to the door and counter. His heart did actually skip a beat when he heard the bell above the door spring into action and he froze in his seat. The familiar voice behind him, just simply ordering a drink, sent a wave down his spine causing him to shiver and hold his breath. A shadow passed over him as Brendan sat down on the chair to the left of Rafe, and just looked at him. Rafe couldn’t move any part of his body, all that was going through his mind was that Brendan must think he was not right in the head, which technically was true, he was going against all he knew and right now, couldn’t bring himself to vaguely resemble a conscious human being. Brendan smiled broadly to himself, gently cleared his throat and put his cup down on the table in front of them. Before he knew it, Rafe felt a hand on his leg, he forced his eyes down to visually confirmed it, pushing away the thought that he was letting his imagination run away again, he looked up and his gaze was met by the warmth of those beautiful tropical cerulean eyes of his consort and he couldn’t help but let out a sigh. “What was that for?” Brendan laughed and took his hand from Rafe’s leg, picked up his cup and took a sip. “Pleugh! Blah….ow. Er, that was a little on the warm side.” Rafe chuckled and bit his bottom lip to hold in the nervous guffaw dying to come out. “You want something?” Brendan said, gesturing to his drink, “I would have got something when I came in, but I didn’t know what you like…that’s what dates are for I suppose, right?” There was an easy silence as Rafe just stared, unable to move his eyes or even speak. “now I’m just rambling…feel free to butt in anytime. I can talk for my country if I had to.” Rafe took a sharp intake of breath and smiled, “Yeah…me too” he laughed “I’m worse than you if anything…but at the moment I seem to be tongue tied, at least if I’d just burnt my tongue I’d have an excuse but….nope, I’m just sat here like a dummy.” “Ahhh don’t worry about it” Brendan patted his leg, “So, do you want a drink to burn your tongue on?” “Go on then, I’ll have a…” Rafe picked up the little menu in the middle of the table and scanned it quickly, “er...just a tea please. Milk and one?” “Coming up, sir” nodded Brendan as he hopped out of his seat and disappeared out of sight. Rafe could hear the mild hubbub of conversation behind him, but not enough to make out what was being said. Now whispering outloud, Rafe practised how he would bring up the subject of the wedding in conversation, but he still had no certain way of just easing it in. He was still talking to himself when a cup appeared in front of him. “So, who’s Chris then?” Brendan returned to his seat. “A friend, well he….” It was now or never, he wouldn’t have another chance, so he just blurted it out, “he’s someone very close to my heart, and getting married in Paris, in just over 2 weeks…and they’ve invited me and a guest to fly over, all expenses paid and stay with them after, so no hotel etc etc and my first thought was to invite you and I stuck with it, so I rang you and now we’re here and it seems even sillier. Why would you say yes? I’m just being daft…I’ll…” he ran out of breath. Brendan just looked at him, his eyes moving left to right, yet never moving from his own. “I’ll go shall I?” Rafe murmured and stood up. Brendan grabbed his wrist as he tried to pass, “where do you think you’re going? Sit” With a sigh, Rafe lowered back down, stared at his empty cup and waited. “As long as I can pay towards some of it, I’m not going to let your friend pay all of it. And towards the gift…I don’t know what they want…” Rafe’s jaw dropped, his mouth gaping, he looked up. “Really? I mean you don’t have to be nice, you don’t ha…” he found a finger pressed over his lips. “Oh shush, I’m going, alright?” Brendan smiled. Rafe just replied with a smile to make a matching pair of beaming Cheshire cats.
The ominous whirr of the printer drowned out the quiet background noise of the television as Rafe grabbed the printed sheet before it fell to the floor and began to re-read it. The details of wedding, the looming date, the address of their place in Paris and contact numbers, it made it all so real, it made the last chapter of his life seem so long ago. He folded the paper and placed it in the folder with the plane tickets, which incidentally had shown up in the post that morning and sparked him to actually print off the details and get organised. With only a few days left until they had to leave, he decided he’d have to start packing now if he had any chance of being done by then. Opening the wardrobe, he stared at all his clothes, scrunched his face and just made a grab for anything he could reach and threw them into his suitcase. He turned round and opened some drawers and repeated his previous actions, before actually looking at his haphazard pile in the case and making some random noises. “Pfft” He took the mound out and flung it on his bed, “Ok lets do this properly” he set off on the monumental task of neatly folding and logically stuffing as much as he could in it and still be able to close it.
don't worry...you dont have to sit back and read it all lol
